A little help

Here for the details.

Getting started, designing a report, recording a full journal, or finding the right setting. Start with a guide, or open a question below.

Questions, answered

These cover the workspace as it works today. If something still looks wrong, include your app version or browser, the book you were in, and a short description — never a password.

How do I get started?

Open the app to explore the read-only demo without signing in. Sign in when you are ready to keep your own books. Record a journal entry, or switch to the read-only sample company to see a finished set of books first. TellyNest does not connect to a bank — you record what happened.

What can I do with custom reports?

Save a balance sheet, income statement, statement of investment, cash-flow statement, or a custom layout. Each line can use GL accounts, transaction types, net/debit/credit, opening/movement/closing, a display sign, and auto-hide zeros. Calculation lines add or subtract other rows. The live preview updates as you edit. Print or save a PDF from the browser.

What is a full journal entry?

A complete voucher with two or more debit and credit lines. All lines share the entry currency, and each side must equal the source amount. You can also use automatic posting (TellyNest writes the other side) or leave an unclassified draft that stays off the statements until you finish it.

How do transaction types pick default accounts?

System types follow a built-in posting rule. When you create a custom type you choose its accounting behavior and the default debit and credit GLs for the current book. Those defaults prefill the next journal entry; you can still change the lines.

What is the sample company?

A shared, fictional, read-only book. Every signed-in user sees the same snapshot. It is labelled as sample data, excluded from membership currency usage, and cannot be edited, locked or deleted.

Why is a converted balance different from my bank?

Display currency is for viewing. Book currency is the functional currency used to post the journal. Converted figures use the latest available TellyNest rate on or before that date. Banks may use a different rate or add fees. If a historical rate is missing, TellyNest leaves it missing instead of inventing zero.

Can I export my books?

Yes. The workspace can export the journal, trial balance, chart of accounts, assets and reports to Excel. Custom statements can also be printed or saved as PDF from the browser. A bulk data-export package of the whole account is not available yet.

What does the asset register do?

Register equipment from a new purchase or an existing posted purchase. Post monthly straight-line depreciation and quarterly revaluations after a server preview. Generated vouchers stay linked in the journal. The latest operation can be reversed with a reason. This is a bounded posting workflow, not a tax return or a full IFRS close.

What is a period lock?

An owner can close the books through a date so posted history cannot be changed. Editors can still post open dates. Reopening requires a reason. This is an edit lock, not a year-end transfer to retained earnings.

Does TellyNest connect to my bank?

No. You manually record entries with a name, amount, date and currency. TellyNest does not move your money, initiate transfers or file tax returns.

What happens if my membership ends?

Historical records remain available. Your current plan determines the currency allowance for new entries.

How do I manage a store subscription?

Use subscription settings in your Apple or Google account. Uninstalling TellyNest does not cancel a subscription. Restore purchases from the membership page while signed in to the original account. Web checkout is not configured; store purchases stay in the mobile apps.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Open Profile → Delete account in the app, or Account → Account security in the web workspace, and confirm permanent deletion. This cannot be undone. Cancel store subscriptions separately to stop renewal; deleting your account does not cancel them.
